um my path to consulting and marketing and branding, which is what I do now has really been a winding road. Um, I went to school for film and anthropology and ended up dropping out three years in because I started actually working in the film industry doing production design. So sets and props and special effects Andi, eventually through kind of creative pops found my way into the marketing and branding space where I think that anthropological background and that understanding of kind of, um, social norms and trends really became valuable and combined with creativity and starting to think about how do we create really engaging interesting experiences for people? Um, and as far as the incidents, that kind of led me here, really, I had a lot of help. I had a lot of people who believed in me. Um, I focused on really building advocates and building relationships. And while I don't have a college degree, um, I have never not had a job. I have had multiple jobs and roles created for me. Um, because I've been able to sell myself in, position myself in the right way and to really bring my life experience to the table.
came from before I started my consultancy. I had been working at a number of marketing and advertising agencies, and, um, it took me a little while to recognize that, as we were doing and shifting to consulting as I started Rebellin reason that the dynamic of the relationship with the clients was very different. So as an agency, a client really would often tell us what to do and we would go and execute it. But as a consultant, clients are really coming to me and asking me to tell them what to do. And so that dynamic in that relationship it was a little bit different in a good way. It was something that I wanted more of Is that ability to partner and to really be able to work with organizations? Um, I would also say, just starting as a one person consultancy, you're doing everything yourself from the beginning. Or at least I Waas and I learned over the first couple of months. Thio really find amazing support. Resource is on DTA delegate Ah, lot of the smaller stuff or or things that just weren't really they were. They were needed in the business, but they weren't going toe drive our revenue necessarily. Um and so really figuring out where those things are that I could, um, you know, bringing other resource is to handle that. That's like a little while as well.
we use a number of different tools. What I tell my team is I want us to be experimenting all the time. And I'm happy for our company to be the guinea pig of testing out a new tool. We use a variety of tools from marketing and just kind of business management perspective. Everything from Callen DLLee so that people can easily, easily and quickly book time on our calendars Thio splash pages for events where we're able to track our leads. We use mail chimp for, um, you know, really being able Thio manage our email. Um, we use hoot suite to manage all of our other social content. And then I'm also using a lot of tools. Like Doc, you signed anything that can remove the friction from a client being able to sign a contract and say yes and move forward with us. Um, in addition to that from a framework perspective, we do a lot of branding and marketing strategy and positioning. And, um, one of the frameworks that we use is the story brand framework, which is a really interesting framework, especially, I would say, for small businesses, it gives you a really solid narrative construct to put behind your organization and frames it in a way that I think is really, really appealing. Um, And then we also have been developing our own framework, really focused on building rebel brands and building rebellion in tow organizations so that they are thinking about differentiation from the very beginning. They are explicitly looking at the rules and conventions off their industry and then strategically and deliberately breaking some of those conventions. And so we like to say Rebellin reason we like toe work with the rule breakers and if you're not a rule breaker or rebel yet will turn you into one.
