so, uh, I actually ah, I got into marketing kind of by accident. I was in college and ah ah, I was studying political science, which is pretty far from marketing, and, uh, came to my junior year, and it was time to start finding an internship. And what ended up happening was I'd actually used this technology Teoh prank my roommate by remote controlling his computer. And I was like, Oh, man, that would actually be a pretty cool company to intern for So I ended up looking them up, found out that they were harkening into and ah, on interviewing, got hired as an intern and then, ah, basically steady an internship when it went from an internship to working part time to, ah, full time offer, uh, once I graduated college. And that's kind of how I got into marketing. Um, it was more my interest in technology that got me into it. And then marketing was kind of the thing that came along with it. I was just going to say the big things that have shaped my career, um, one would be being able. Teoh, uh, lived in Australia for work like that was one of the kind of crazy things that I was able to do by working for this company. And then the other thing was my first time really being able to travel internationally. Like I, you know, I had done like a identification, right? That's not that's not traveling. That's not experiencing a lot of different culture on. So as an example, uh, I got to fly to, uh, Eastern Europe, and that was my first trip to Europe, was flying to Eastern Europe and just kind of like gave me instead of experiences that I am not sure I would have been able to get otherwise.
everything. I'm So my role right now is I lied, marking it at the company important. And that involves everything from, uh, deciding budgets. So working with our finances and our executive team, Teoh feel like OK, well, how much money are we setting aside from we're or marketing this year? How is that budget split up? Like in terms of the different categories and programs on then outside of, you know, kind of the budgeting stuff more like management. It's a lot in messaging. So what do we say? How do we say it and why? Um, being responsible for kind of ultimately on the gatekeeper for what kind of goes out the door. And so there's also kind of responsibility for making sure that our brands and the standards for that brand carry through all the programs that we do. Um, it's pretty full on, uh, to be honest, like I think one of the things then e didn't mention this earlier, but I work in startups. I've spent my whole entire career working in early two growth stage confidence. Uh, not big companies, companies that literally start with, like, 15 people crammed into an office, and I think, Uh, the challenging thing about that is that you end up having to do everything and there's there. There's no shoot. There's no shortage of things to do, and they're all important things to do. So the real challenge is figuring out on how you prioritise all of these important things under all important. So it's kind of it's a very, uh, it is a talented Gartner. It's you're always on. I don't have to travel.eso? Yeah, my job. 100% remote, which is awesome. My team is remote. And, uh uh, I occasionally traveled down to our corporate office in New York. But to be honest with, you know, Corona like, that's probably not gonna happen for the rest of the year, so yeah, I'm staying local.
is a huge. The other thing is, uh, you are working with people who may be first time founders. They may have never founded a company before. Meanwhile, like you actually have experienced what you've been doing this I've been doing started for 15 years. I'm so part of the challenge is one prioritization, right? Like there's too many things to do and you will not get the resource. If you need to do the mall, it's It's a start up. But then also being able to communicate the why why you're prioritizing things a certain way to the rest of the team. Because Leader not like as much of my job is leading marketing, it's also educating the rest of our leadership team is toe like This is what marketing actually means. This is why we're doing it. Ah, you know, like there's definitely an education aspect to it.
