So, I am actually originally from Salt Lake City, Utah. I have never lived anywhere else in my life; I've lived here forever. I love the outdoors, I love going hiking, I love gardening in my backyard, I love hanging out with my cats, reading of course - I am philosphy major. So, I love reading a bunch of crazy philosophy all time.
So, the project at the University of Utah and the courses are actually pretty diverse. And you can structure the major according to your specific interest. So, I love kind of, metaphysics and epistemology and philosophy and biology. So, I took a lot of classes like that. In additional you also have to take some ethics classes and some history of philosophy classes. So, there are three areas - the metaphysics, epistemology ethics and history of philosophy. And everybody has to take at least two classes from those areas. The major is actually pretty small, so it's only I think, like thirty-eight or forty credits or something. So, it's pretty easy to achieve, if you wanted to achieve a philosophy major alongside other majors. And if you just wanted to be a philosophy major, you should be able to graduate pretty quickly.
I actually did switch my major - kind of. I started as an English major at the University of Utah and I took a couple of philosophy classes. I think they were like the philosophy of literature classes, regular intro to philosophy and I just loved it compared to English. If you like the humanities and you kind of like argument structures and you like literature and you like organized and structured speech, organized and structured conversation - you'll find philosophy and it's amazing. It's better than any other humanities program for those kinds of things. It's a lot more linguistically rigorous than the English major and it's a lot more diverse as far as the subject matter and the things that philosophy can interact with. And so yeah after I took a couple of philosophy classes I was hooked and I added philosophy to my repertoire.
