sure. Um, I have an undergrad and s. I have a bachelor's and PhD in biochemistry and then out of grad school. I went and worked in the bio pharmaceutical industry for about three years, and then I had the opportunity to work at a craft brewery. So I jumped at that chance and worked there for about five years. But after a while, I kind of realized I miss getting my hands dirty with data. You know, doing doing data analysis was always my favorite part of research. Eso I decided to take the plunge, quit my job and enrolled in a boot camp, and that's sort of how I got to where I would stay.
so I'm relatively new in this position. I've been with Booz Allen for two or three months now, Um, my responsibilities and decisions are I'm one of the more We're senior data scientist on a project. So I both helped to develop the code and oversee and review code written by more junior members and sort of help mentor them and explain best practices to them. Um, you know, so I'll make decisions about yeah, coding decisions. Algorithmic decisions were leading Thio machine learning on that sort of thing. I'm also transitioning into a more taking on more project management type responsibilities. Um, so I'm getting used thio agile practices and running daily stand ups or scrums, um, priorities and pain points. I mean, given that, you know, it's you could work on a larger team, and we're, you know, distributed were we have team members across the U. S. So just sort of clout getting everyone on the same page, you know, finding a time, given all the time zones, a time of day where everyone can meet. Um, just sort of collaborating remotely has been a pain point. Um, but, you know, our priority is to work together as a team to deliver a, you know, a great product to our client. Um, but do so in a respectful and supportive way within the team. Eso strategies, you know, are just kind of listening to each other and and learning from each other.
mostly program in Python. But I will say that knowing bash like some sort of command line scripting language is very helpful. Um, it's been useful toe have some exposure to Java. JavaScript. I've been a able to avoid ours thus far. But, you know, that's another common language. Um, I've started in my current position. We use docker. Ah, lot get is pretty ubiquitous in terms of code version being system and collaborating. We also used your and confluence for project management and collaboration. Um, in terms of the nitty gritty, um, data science, I've actually used a surprising amount of just random forests or radiant boosted decision trees in my in my rolls. Um, but I'm currently doing mawr work on NLP. So we're starting to do I'm not directly doing this, but someone on my team we're looking at using a large language model to do ah, cognitive search type function. Um, so So that's exciting To get to the apply some of the more advanced algorithms that are out thereOh, so, Data engineer, I've also used spark eso. That's you know, if you're dealing with truly big data, you're going to have to know sparked both as a data scientist. How toe? You know, Access Thio used to code and spark. But as a data engineer side, you're gonna be studying it up and thinking about things like that. Um, some of the engineers on my current project, you know, their their cloud engineers. And so they are having toe deal with AWS and easy to containers and and stuff like that. So no more and more is moving to the cloud. So knowing some of those cloud tools is is important.
