I'm originally from India; I'm from the Northern part of India- Punjab. I came to United States in 2005. I'm a PhD from the University of Connecticut. Then I came to UT Dallas in 2010 and I've been here in Dallas since the last 8 years. As far as what I enjoy: I enjoy watching sports; cricket, basketball, tennis! Lately I've also started to do gardening and I enjoy that as well!
My research interests are in the field of social media and social network. Social media: mostly online word of mouth. My first couple of research projects were related to how online word of mouth influences decision making. In the same industry, we also studied how IT knowledge influences decision making. In the field of social networks, I've done one study where we looked at how social network of inventors influences their innovation output. Lately, I've also started working in area of healthcare! And here we're looking at how patient portals influence... or usage of patient portals influence patient outcomes particularly patient 'health' outcomes like hospitalizations and things like that!
In general, I think for any research projects there are a couple of ways you can come up with ideas. First thing is, if you read academic literature then you can think of things which people have already done and what you can do. My research project related to social networks, I can attribute it to that methodology. I was studying social networks, I was reading a lot about it, that's how I came up with that idea. The second way you find research ideas you __ to discuss with your co-authors, you attend conferences and you come to know about what is happening around you. My research ideas in VC industry are specifically related to that particular theme. How do we decide whether it's worth pursuing or not? You have to think about whether it's interesting, it's novel or not, it has some practical implications and things like that!
