First of all, thanks for having me today. It's fantastic to be here and I appreciate the opportunity. My background starts with technology be it operating systems and communications. I took the company public based on the technological idea that I had, which was voiceover IP patented that concept and took the company public. Then I retired I had been retired for about six years before starting Galileo. It was really a conversation with my wife during that six years of retirement where she said all these other ideas that you're having you'll be held accountable if you don't execute on them. So I took inspiration from my wife and then I took my daughter to work and of course I wasn't working. I took her to an empty building and said, what if we had a company right here? So that was really the genesis of Galileo.
In the first few days and weeks, we were really just me and two other people. I was providing a lot of the technological resource that was needed. It was a long productive day. I look back on those days fondly and I'm glad that we had those experiences early on. Galileo took a little bit of a non-traditional path. We bootstrapped our company largely. We went many years before actually taking institutional funds. So there was always a sense of having to really dive in and scrap to make it work.
The challenges of building the team are just identifying the right people, identifying people that work together well, and creating a culture I think that's the most difficult thing. It's interesting how cultures evolve within companies. I've been involved in two of my own and that creating a culture is really important. Checking for cultural fit, as you bring on new members of the team is critical and it's not easy. So the challenges early on were, who were the right team members and they changed over time. The good thing is that for Galileo many of the leaders that have been there had been there over now for a long period of time. Galileo's nearly 20 years old, 20 years old, actually this month and many of the leaders have been there 16 plus years.
