Okay, well, let me just start by saying that I was born and raised in Bogota, Colombia, and my upbringing is really what shaped my life and is a big reason why I ended up here today. I came to the US in 94 after having been in Colombia for a while as you know, in Colombia in the nineties, things were not as they are today challenging time so I came here to finish high school. Then fast forward, went to college, got a scholarship to play tennis for the first year in the university and then I stayed at the town where I went to college in Nebraska for about six years of my career and so I started there as a recruiter for the university and throughout my time there, I enjoyed it and I joined a consulting company of Nebraska and I traveled around the world, and at some point, I felt that I was disconnected with my friends, my family. It was a time of reflection, and I stumbled into Whole Foods Market, the first Whole Foods Market that opened in 2004 and I fell in love with the with people with the smell with what Whole Foods Market stood for and I made it a point to at some point of my life come to join with Whole Foods Market and that's how I moved to Austin in 2010 and in 2014, I started my career at Whole Foods Market.
Yeah, in the essence of what I do is to connect great talent with purpose-driven opportunities at the executive level. So anything at the VP level or above, I partner without team leaders to find the talent. So my job goes from sourcing, attracting, recruiting and ensuring that the selection process is smooth for both candidates and the team leaders. I have to move forward people through the profit, so that's a big decision we do interviews, I do something similar as what we're doing right now where we do a digital interview and based on what we're looking for, I make the decision to either move forward or declines some candidates. Challenges, I mean, these are big decisions, so when somebody is thinking about relocating their families when somebody is thinking about making a lifetime decision, that's it is to change jobs comes with a lot of responsibility and there are challenges on the way that comes with that one of the challenges that maybe not a lot of companies have is the fact that we have a lot of interest for our roles and a lot of people who want to be a part of Whole Foods Market and sometimes we have many qualified candidates but we only can move forward a selected few. So that presents a challenge on its own but for the most part, I really enjoy my job and I get to what I love and do it for the company that I really believe in.
It relates to recruiting, I feel that the industry is moving towards an automated way of screening and responding to candidates. My best tool and the best way for me to do my job is to use my phone. I mean, I love to talk to candidates a lot to texts when it's permitted and establish that human relationship. I do use our video conference tool to do interviews that I really enjoyed and I prefer that over other tools. Well, we do have an ATS system. I don't think any system is the silver bullet to recruiting, so I don't rely too much on the tool, but more on the connection that I establish with the candidates.
