Well, you know, I never intended to get into technology. That wasn't the intent. I actually started out thinking I was going to be an attorney and then decided that's not what I wanted to do. And I went into marketing, and along the way there was an I T department that couldn't continue analysis that I needed to be done. So I taught myself to code. And from there that's that's how it started. I spent a number of years going back and forth in different industries and different companies learning the business and learning technology side and found out that that's really what it takes. Uh, succeed is to understand both the technology and the business application and the how it's gonna how it's going to change things. E mhm. Well, I think every company is different. Currently at H and M Way Renee, what we call business, tech and business tech is a is an organization that consists of people responsible for products and people responsible for technology. So I have responsibility for the for the global technology. However, because it is an agile working environment is very much broken down into a series of domain, so a lot of this is providing this overall leadership, providing capabilities and, quite honestly, helping helping people understand and teach the best way forward, right? I'm sorry I couldn't hear that one. All the priorities for for us this year is, is when we're going through a transformation where we're reorganizing that, reorganizing the function, to better align to the business needs of the future, to become more agile and faster. Number two is to really position ourselves because of the pandemic and everything that we've all gone through. Position ourselves for growth again. You know, retail is slowly opening up in different parts of the world. Europe is certainly further ahead than the US, but we have to do a lot of things in order to, uh, to be able to get ready. So it's really getting ready for that next growth spurt that we all hope it happens when the world opens up. And I'd say the third thing that's on top of the mind is doing things in a secure manner in the safest manner. I mean, the security and governance and regulations are always part of what we dio way have to deal with in technology and I think again this year because of what's happened to us to the this year, it's it's become more important and we have Thio deal with people working at home working remotely, and it's really changed how we look at security, where the threats are a swell Well, you know, a little bit different than most people. Right now. I'm working for a Swedish company. I'm based in that in California right now planning to relocate to Sweden. So I'm working 10 p.m. till starting about 10 o'clock at night and finishing up about nine o'clock in the morning. So in order to be on the time, but we are a global organization A. Some point in time, it will get to be more normal hours once, uh, once I do relocate.
well, I think the major challenges many times is the legacy technology on the technology side. Having Thio understand their decisions have been made over the years for all well intended for any company have been with and but times change. We have to change with it. So so how do we deal with the financial situation that we've been placed in? How we deal with the technical debt we like to call it on and trying to overcome that, um, it takes a lot of cooperation, a lot of understanding of the people, the processes, understanding capabilities and trying to look at what that North star is of where we can go and then set that direction for the future. It zits taking in and processing a lot of information from different sources simultaneously, and technology is only one part of it. But it's also increasingly becoming a more important part as we learned to use technology in different ways.
So if you look at what's going on today, certainly the trend is is very much heavily on a i N M l. So you, of course, have things like python and you have our and you have other other technologies. You know, the frameworks continue to evolve, and we'll continue to evolve. So these are things that we end up. Ah, lot of that's dependent upon the cloud provider that you associate with and what tools and things that they have. So I think that, you know, the rial challenge here is to be flexible, agile. You don't walk yourself into anything, just some of the very basic constructs we've all used for years, which is too abstract. The code abstract abstract. The business process from everything that you can in order to make it affordable is really what we try to dio
