About us

  The University of Louisiana at Lafayette (UL Lafayette) offers bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. With just over 19,000 students, it is the second-largest four-year public university in Louisiana.

UL Lafayette is among the top 10 universities in the U.S. for its percentage of research and development expenditures funded by business, according to the National Science Foundation. 

UL Lafayette students and faculty members are engaged in many high-profile research projects. The University is working with Swiftships Shipbuilders, Inc., to develop a military boat capable of autonomous navigation, for instance. In 2007, UL Lafayette students were the first at a Louisiana university to design and build a working satellite that was launched into space. They sent another into orbit in 2013. UL Lafayette is the first, and only, higher education institution in the state to be recognized for its sustainability practices with the “Green Ribbon School” designation from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns compete in NCAA Division I football, basketball, baseball, tennis, golf, softball, volleyball, women’s soccer, and track and field.

There are over 190 student organizations.  Every year, UL Lafayette hosts Lagniappe Day for students, which includes activities such as canoe races in Cypress Lake and a campus-wide crawfish boil with more than 15,000 pounds of Louisiana crawfish. We are rich in tradition and proud of our unique regional culture.

Service learning is integrated into all UL Lafayette students’ college experience. Students and faculty members provide about 150,000 community service hours, on average, every year. The University hosts the only campus-based AmeriCorps program in Louisiana.
