Cambridge Local First is a non-profit network of locally owned and independent businesses formed in October 2005 to build a strong local economy and a vibrant community. The mission of CLF is to support, promote, and celebrate a “Local Economy Community” by educating the public and government about the significant environmental, economic, and cultural benefits of a strong local economy.► Won a $5,000 grant from the Cambridge Community Development Department (CDD) to create a website that serves as a place for residents, visitors, and employees to discover the City’s vibrant locally-owned businesses. Managed the development of the website.► Built partnerships with stakeholders across Cambridge. These include Cambridge City Councilors, Cambridge CDD, non-profit organizations, Cambridge Nonprofit Coalition, local news outlets including Cambridge Day and Scout Cambridge, Harvard Square Neighborhood Association, Harvard Phillips Brooks House Association, HBS’ Community Actions Partners, Cambridge-based business associations, MIT’s PKG Center, and Belmont-Watertown Local First. ► Worked with a City Councilor to improve the permitting and licensing process for small business owners.► Met with the Cambridge CDD to discuss the proposed Vacant Storefront Registration Policy. ► Promoted solidarity between small business owners and the community, while exploring the ownership story in Cambridge.► Expanded the Board of Directors and built a robust Advisory Council. ► Met with consultants from HBS’ Community Action Partners program, to brainstorm programming and value delivery.  ► Invested in the back-end operations of the organization to increase efficiency. ► Ms. Siddiqui won a seat on Cambridge City Council, with a historic margin for a first-time candidate. With 26 candidates in the race, she received over 10% of the total vote,  coming in second overall, just behind the Mayor. Ms. Siddiqui is the first South Asian and first Muslim woman to be elected to the Council.► Managed all aspects of the campaign, including crafting the overall campaign strategy, coordinating 200+ volunteers as canvassers and phone bankers, hiring and managing a Field Director, canvassing, distributing yard signs, meeting with political and community leaders, working on endorsements and interviews with endorsing organizations, fundraising, balancing the budget, crafting marketing materials such as palm cards and door hangers, building mailers and their corresponding targeting strategy, generating a weekly online newsletter, building and maintaining the website, coordinating the kick-off, house parties, meet and greets, and forum events, coordinating the Get Out the Vote (GOTV) period.

► Developed a human presence detection system for a federal security agency.► Advised a federal defense agency on countermeasures to the online recruitment of certain insurgent organizations. This involved using web crawlers to geotag ISIS' social media presence in the Middle East, aggregating a data set of about 500 individuals, and using a predictive analytic model to forecast susceptibility to influence by certain insurgent organizations. ► Won two internship-wide awards for work in the Summer Games internship. We have developed a broad array of operational methods, which we call collectively our "toolbox."​ These include well-known conflict resolution techniques, such as mediation and facilitation, and less traditional ones, like TV productions, radio soap opera, and community organising. We have found that employing several tools at the same time increases their overall effectiveness.

► Supported the Enterprise Support Project, which measured the specific contribution of a training and support program on key business outcomes in small businesses throughout Morocco. ► This effort involved cleaning data on 5 sets of questionnaires given to 564 small businesses in Morocco, translating questionnaire labels between French and English, merging all the variables from the different surveys and changing all the variable names, creating final database for analysis and publication, and making a final codebook while anonymizing the data using STATA.
