Rewriting the Code is a 501 (c)(3) addressing why women quit the computer science major and early in their tech careers. Rewriting the Code is conducting research, building programs, and launching partnerships to understand why women quit and to retain women in tech. We are partnering with select universities and leading tech companies to identify high potential women CS majors early in their undergraduate studies, place them in technical internships, and provide robust programming, training, mentorship and community to help them excel in their technical educations and careers.


About us

  Rewriting the Code is a 501(c)3 focused on recruiting, retaining and advancing women in tech. 

There is a critical talent shortfall in the tech industry that threatens US innovation and our ability to compete globally. 600,000+ highly paid positions currently go unfilled, but only 55,000 computer science (CS) majors graduate each year from US universities. Women represent the largest source of smart, well educated, highly motivated candidates available to reduce this tech talent gap. Close to 60% of college students today are female. Thanks to significant investments in K-12 educational programs designed to include more girls in CS, introductory computer science courses at most universities boast a 50-50 gender balance. Unfortunately, the quit rate among women in CS is alarmingly high – fewer than 20% graduate with a major in CS.

The problem worsens in early tech careers. 41% of women in technical careers quit in the first ten years (compared to 17% of men) largely due to cultural – not family – reasons. At the same time, tech executives are beginning to realize the importance of the large and growing base of female consumers. They are eager to include women who bring the experience, perspectives and strong technical talent to help design and develop the products to meet the needs of women and men who buy their products. Many tech executives now understand that the recruitment and retention of women in technical roles is a bottom line issue: it enhances revenue, performance, and productivity.

Rewriting the Code is building substantive programs and partnerships among leading universities, tech companies
and other organizations to better understand why women are quitting at alarming rates, and to take meaningful action to retain women in computer science majors and tech careers.

Providing product market positioning, client expansion strategy, relationship cultivation & management, sales channel targeting, business-to-consumer business model execution and licensing expertise to start-up and emerging companies. Working with universities and undergraduates to develop internship, mentoring and educational programming for student populations. Led the business development and sales strategy for R65 Labs. R65 is focused on augmenting achievement, wellbeing and organizational success through brain health. Daily choices related to sleep, activity, nutrition and hydration ultimately influence how one thinks and feels. R65 hopes to impact the target market of the millennial population to help them engage, learn and make healthy choices that will positively impact their wellbeing.

Led the strategy, business development and operational integration efforts of the Replay Photos business into Lulu Press. Expanded the professional sport licensing portfolio to include brands such as MLB and the NHL. Spearheaded the creation of licensed sports designs and products targeted to the female and youth market.


Replay Photos was a web-based business that turned photography into a revenue generator for a host of brands. Based in Durham, North Carolina, Replay Photos launched in 2003 with Duke University as its first client and grew to include over 140 universities, the National Football League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association, Major League Baseball, Getty Images, Staples, Walgreens and the Associated Press.
