In my senior year at BYU, I Co-founded a social innovation business plan competition that still exists at BYU today. The Y-prize is a social innovation competition that helps students launch social ventures designed to solve highly impactful social problems on a global scale.  This year's competition was a global health challenge focused on distributing treatment for the disease Schistosomiasis in Uganda and Tanzania.Executed the launch of a brand new campus competition: the Y-prize.Recruited 13 teams in 2 week period to compete in the search for the optimal way to distribute medicine (Praziquantel) to residents of rural Uganda and Tanzania needing treatment for Schistosomiasis.Recruited and managed 12 navigators who served as business advisers and coaches to competing teams.Developed new course curriculum based on lean start-up method principlesPlanned and directed y-prize events, coordinating with guest speakers, partners, sponsors, and teamsJudged competition submissions, allocated funds up to $38K for grand prize

I studied Business Management and was accepted into the Strategy program, a small, highly selective emphasis program within the Business major which builds skill sets that are especially useful in consulting, startups, and in settings requiring significant strategic innovation.  At BYU, I also became interested in social entrepreneurship and created the equivalent of a minor in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship for myself through a combination of classes focused on program evaluation, root cause analysis, impact investing, for-profit vs. non-profit business models, and a summer capstone course in Social Innovation at the University of Oxford in England.
