Our flagship program is a paid Fellowship with a four-year commitment for leaders ages 21-30 to serve in high-impact government and nonprofit roles at the local level, particularly in their hometowns or communities to which they are already committed.Training | Fellows first receive 4 weeks of graduate-level training from institutions including Tisch College for Civic Life, the Harvard Kennedy School, and the UNC School of Government. Placement | In the next two years, each Fellow works on a critical community project, from universal pre-K in Jackson, Mississippi to opioid relief in Appalachian West Virginia. Building a National Leadership Force | The program is really about building a bench of civic leaders in every corner of this country for decades to come. As such, we invest heavily in equipping Fellows with the training and resources they need to attract other outstanding young leaders to the community, and to advance into positions of civic leadership in the community/region themselves. We currently have 54 Fellows serving their home states and communities in 21 states nationwide. We also are running pilots of the following programs:Summer Fellowship | Full-time internships addressing local community challenges for undergraduate and graduate students.Corps Membership | Local government/service job matching, placement, online trainings, and regional gatherings.GovChallenge | Teams of high school and college students learn about challenges facing their communities, propose solutions to those challenges, and then actually work alongside local leaders to implement their proposals.

The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation is a venture philanthropy firm supporting early stage, high impact social enterprises. We believe that with early funding and rigorous support, exceptional social entrepreneurs, tackling some of society’s most complex problems, can make the world a better place. We find, fund and support exceptional entrepreneurs with three years of unrestricted funding and partner with them to help them reach their full potential and build their organizations to scale.

Since we started in 2002, we have invested in more than 127 social entrepreneurs both domestically and internationally in a variety of issue areas and we plan to scale our organization to support an additional 100 social entrepreneurs by 2020.  Our entrepreneurs are making lasting change in the world and our portfolio reflects some of the most impactful new organizations in the social sector.

  FairED is a university-student led nonprofit organization that aims to reduce the growing achievement gap manifest in the college admissions process by providing free student-to-student consultation and resources proven to increase one's chances of getting in to an institution of higher learning. At FairED, we wish to champion the notion that college admissions should be determined by merit, rather than by socioeconomic status.

ALU aims to develop 3 million ethical and entrepreneurial leaders for Africa and the world by 2035. It uses a personalized, student-driven, project-based, and mission-oriented approach to create agile, lifelong learners who can adapt to a changing world. 

ALU's first site was inaugurated in September 2015 in Mauritius. It now has sites in Rwanda and Kenya, and is rolling out several more over the next few years.

  Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground works to transform the way the world deals with conflict - away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative problem solving. We work with local partners to find culturally appropriate means to strengthen societies'​ capacity to deal with conflicts constructively: to understand the differences and act on the commonalities.

Our mission is to transform the way the world deals with conflict: away from adversarial approaches, toward cooperative solutions. 

We have developed a broad array of operational methods, which we call collectively our "toolbox."​ These include well-known conflict resolution techniques, such as mediation and facilitation, and less traditional ones, like TV productions, radio soap opera, and community organising. We have found that employing several tools at the same time increases their overall effectiveness.

The Foreign Service (FS) is dedicated to representing America and responding to the needs of American citizens in other countries. Members of the Foreign Service can be sent to any embassy, consulate, or other diplomatic mission anywhere in the world, at any time, to serve the diplomatic needs of the United States. 

Nearly 7,400 Civil Service (CS) employees serve as a stable resource pool in Washington D.C., at Passport Agencies and field offices throughout the United States, and at several Consulates in Mexico. Civil Service employees provide in-depth expertise and continuity in accomplishing all aspects of the Department's mission and are involved in virtually every function of the Department. Civil Service employees issue passports, compile and analyze overseas reports, provide logistical support to posts, consult with Congress about foreign policy initiatives and policies, and formulate and manage the budget. 

More than 31,000 Foreign Service National (FSN) employees also supplement the personnel requirements of the Department overseas. FSN employees are local residents of the countries in which we maintain diplomatic posts and consulates. They are valued members of our embassy teams, for they provide continuity for the transient American staff and have language and cultural expertise.
