Based on the initial work I did in corporate strategy, we assembled a portfolio including datacenters/DCIM, hardware, platforms (applications and data), data and storage and infrastructure security and elevated "Cloud" to a top-level business P&L in the company (a "Product Area"). We define “cloud” as highly accessible, industrialized infrastructure.  It is what traditional infrastructure is not. It is infrastructure as it’s own practice. Being highly accessible has consequences to all non-functional aspects: automation, governance, tenancy, utilization, predictability, security, maintainability et al. Being industrialized means the introduction of supply chain thinking where there are continuous improvements in technologies, output and unit economics all within the same operational model.Our products include NFVi, SDN, HDS8000, BSP8100 and others.The HDS8000 was the world's first hyperscale, disaggregated system where all components where natively available over a common single-mode optical interconnect. It won multiple industry and design awards.At MWC 2017, we took it one step further and demonstrated alternative form factors that are entirely assembled and serviced by robotics in the datacenter.Starting the cloud effort required touching our approaches to design, development, partnering, sourcing, supply, manufacturing, assembly, distribution, warranty/claims handling, contracts, support, commercial models, consumption experience, positioning, marketing and differences in our customer's buying and decision processes. After scoring in the top 0.1% of the MCAT, I thought it would be fun to teach Organic and General Chemistry.


While in graduate school, I ran a company that wrote, edited and did strategic planning around the output of grant-funded science: published papers. I typically did one or two manuscripts a week, and over five years, edited nearly 400 manuscripts (~1 per week) and had a 98% publication rate. Largely fueled by an very international base in the San Diego area and then via recommendations, it was a tremendous experience and I was lucky to have done it.
