Hudson's Bay Company

My responsibilities consisted of both software engineering and machine learning research. On the engineering side I built data pipelines in Python to extract, transform, and load data from the hospital's decentralized data sources into dashboards, SQL databases, and third party APIs. I also, designed monitoring tools to automatically alert (usually via the Slack API) our team to possible production failures. Finally, I worked on upgrading the legacy code-base (based on VBA) to a modern compact Python version based on object oriented programming concepts and test driven development. On the machine learning/analytics side I found areas of improvement and then researched machine learning methods that could provide value and insight. For instance, I investigated forecasting length of stay (LOS) in order to improve patient flow and used object detection algorithms to assist in diagnosing conditions in chest X-Rays

Eastern Maine Medical Center

I assisted the data analytics team during the summer months (June-August) and over the winter break (December-January) at EMMC. I analyzed both patient and financial data using a variety of common data analytics tools. I also, helped automate certain tasks with SQL and prepared data for ingestion by third party APIs.


Founded PaddleSoft to help paddlers plan whitewater adventures. Did a variety of tasks including full stack development with Ruby on Rails, SQL, NoSQL, JavaScript, and HTML, and data science tasks such as creating time series neural networks to predict river flow, working with Spark/Hadoop to analyze social media data, building pipelines with Kafka to serve data in real time, and training Word2Vec/LDA models to help power river/paddling search and question/answering services.

I worked mainly with HR to develop HRIS systems. A few of my tasks included analyzing LAWSON reports with Excel, using SQL and Microsoft Access to automate Affordable Care Act and COBRA reporting, creating custom Excel functions and Macros with VB, and collaborating with a larger team in the implementation of manager self-service.

Worked as a research assistant for the chemistry department. Worked mainly on computer modeling of various molecules. Ran jobs on the univeristy supercomputer in order to simulate chemical reactions and the formation of chemical compounds.
