I carry out machine and deep learning research in the context of intelligent systems and vehicles. Large-scale training, advance perception and scene understanding are my main expertise. I also have extensive experience in using computer graphics and simulation to empower autonomous driving. My research within Intel Labs includes creating the future of scene understanding systems for intelligent systems and to discover new ways to leverage simulation.As part of my background I have research and industrial experience with:* Deep Learning and general machine learning at scale* Scene Understanding (object detection, semantic segmentation, change detection, etc.)* Visual SLAM* Simulation and 3D engines* Generative methods* Numeric optimization* Riemannian geometryI am also an instructor of machine learning at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (Barcelona, Spain). About us

  Toyota Research Institute Inc. (TRI) is an R&D enterprise with an initial focus on artificial intelligence and robotics. The headquarters is located in Silicon Valley near Stanford University in Los Altos, California. A second facility is located near the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, Massachusetts. A third facility is located near the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

TRI has four initial mandates:
First, we wish to enhance the safety of automobiles with the ultimate goal of creating a car that is incapable of causing a crash, regardless of the skill or condition of the driver.

Second, we want to increase access to cars to those who otherwise cannot drive, including people with special needs and seniors.

Third, we plan to help translate Toyota’s expertise in creating products for outdoor mobility into products for indoor mobility. In other words, Toyota’s goal is to move people across the room, across town, and across the country.

Finally we hope to accelerate scientific discovery by applying techniques from artificial intelligence and machine learning particularly in the area of materials science.

I carry out research in the fields of computer vision and machine learning applied to robotics and autonomous vehicles. My main interest is Visual Localization and  Semantic Mapping(V-SLASeM) from both, theretical and applied points of view. At a theretical level I have created new optimization methods based on compressed sensing and Riemannian optimization. I have also explored new ways of training Deep CNNs to perform Semantic Segmentation of Urban Scenes.
