Chief Information Officer at Novartis Institutes for BioMedical Research (NIBR)

Responsible for leading Novartis' global technology organization for its research and early development division (NIBR). Manages an annual budget of ~$260M and a team of ~450 employees accountable for informatics, application development, data management, engineering, infrastructure, security, and IT operations. Leads the evaluation and incorporation of new technologies into NIBR's ecosystem, including mobile, cloud, digital health, and security, and the creation and execution of an AI and data strategy that builds on NIBR's existing data assets and leverages leading-edge data mining and predictive analytic technology to drive growth, profitability, and patient value. Reviews and continuously improves the organizational structure and governance for prioritization of technology initiatives, manages third-party providers and partnerships, and directs employee hiring, development, and compensation programs to ensure the highest levels of performance and service. Leads strategic planning efforts for technology, collaborating with Novartis’ commercial and operational organizations to identify innovative opportunities for new areas of research and growth.

Responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, operation, and support of information technology services, and for establishing an encompassing informatics vision to infuse innovation and strategic differentiation into Covance's product offerings. Recruited a new team, developed a ground-breaking technology platform, created the first software-as-a-service offering in the company’s history, and signed landmark agreements with several major pharmaceutical companies to provide strategic oversight of their entire global portfolio of clinical trials. The platform, known as Xcellerate, integrates, analyzes and visualizes clinical trial data in near real time to mitigate risk, protect patient safety, and drive better and faster clinical trial results. Served as a member of Covance’s Global Operating Committee and the Covance Science Council. Recognized with Computerworld’s 2017 Premier 100 Technology Leaders award, the 2018 Scrip award, the 2016 Fierce innovation award, the 2016 Informa clinical and research excellence award, and the 2015 Covance leadership award, the company’s highest recognition for people, process, and client excellence. Covance is the drug development division of LabCorp, the largest healthcare diagnostics company in the world, with 60,000 employees, operations in 60 countries, and annual revenue in excess of $10 billion.
